Rajasthan Dams Witness Rise in Water Storage, Bisalpur Dam Awaits Full Capacity as Monsoon Strengthens

Rajasthan dam water levels have improved with a 61.85 MQM rise in storage during the last 24 hours. State reservoirs now hold 46.67 percent capacity, while Bisalpur Dam remains a major focus as it awaits full capacity. Heavy rainfall was recorded across Udaipur, Salumber, Chittorgarh and other regions.

Rajasthan’s dam water storage levels have shown a significant improvement following continuous monsoon activity, with the state witnessing an increase of 61.85 million cubic metres (MQM) in total storage capacity over the last 24 hours. According to the latest figures, dams across Rajasthan have reached 46.67 percent of their total storage capacity. However, the current water availability remains lower compared to the same day last year, when the state’s dams had recorded 70.66 percent of total capacity.

The latest zone-wise assessment shows that dams in the Jaipur zone have reached 47.72 percent of their total storage capacity. The Bharatpur zone dams have recorded 25.56 percent water storage, while Jodhpur zone dams have reached 18.27 percent capacity. Kota zone dams currently hold 59.04 percent of their total capacity, Banswara zone dams have reached 45.89 percent, and Udaipur zone dams have recorded 37.15 percent water storage.

Expectation Rises Around Rajasthan’s Lifeline Bisalpur Dam

Amid the improving water situation, attention remains focused on Rajasthan’s lifeline Bisalpur Dam, where people are waiting for the reservoir to reach full capacity. On the same day last year, the dam had reached its maximum level, forcing authorities to open two gates at 315.50 RL metres.

However, the current water level at Bisalpur Dam stands at 313.62 RL metres. The reservoir has received only 66.31 percent of its total storage capacity so far. The dam area is also awaiting the arrival of water from the Triveni catchment region, which plays an important role in increasing inflow into the reservoir.

Historically, Bisalpur Dam has usually reached full capacity during August, and expectations remain that the reservoir may overflow during the same period this year. The dam continues to remain a major attraction for visitors, with surrounding areas becoming popular destinations for tourists during the monsoon season.

Salumber and Udaipur witnessed intense rainfall activity, while more than two inches of rain was recorded at 31 locations across Rajasthan. The Gambhiri Dam in Chittorgarh recorded 57 millimetres of rainfall, while the Bassi Dam in Chittorgarh received 50 millimetres.

In Udaipur district, the Jhadol Dam recorded 95 millimetres of rainfall, reflecting strong monsoon activity in the region.

The latest dam storage figures and rainfall updates indicate improving water conditions across several parts of Rajasthan. While the overall storage level remains below last year’s position, continued rainfall activity is expected to play a crucial role in increasing reservoir levels, particularly for major water sources such as Bisalpur Dam.
